While flipping through old photo albums at the firehouse, we came across this unique memory from January 6, 1983.

This photo captures the aftermath of a plane crash near Cargill Lane, close to what was then known as Cargill Airport. The pilot had just purchased the aircraft and was flying it home to New York from Ohio when something went wrong, forcing an emergency landing in a nearby field.

Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported, but the incident left behind quite a scene — and a lasting impression on those who responded. As you can see, the aircraft sustained heavy damage, with debris scattered throughout the area.

This call is one of many that show just how varied and unpredictable emergency response can be. From fires to medical calls to unexpected events like this, our volunteers are always ready to serve.

Stay tuned for more memories as we continue to share the stories that have shaped the Granville Fire Company through the years.
