| The Granville Fire Company is proud to share an exciting update on the preservation of historic artifacts from the Malta Home. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Bryson Wagner of Bryson’s Stuff for his expertise and assistance in helping us preserve the items recovered from the building’s original time capsule. These remarkable artifacts were placed in the time capsule on May 14, 1919, and the capsule itself was set into the building’s cornerstone on November 19, 1919, where it remained sealed for over a century until the Malta Home was demolished. The time capsule and cornerstone were generously donated to the Granville Fire Company by Charles and Christine Watts in 2024, allowing us the opportunity to safeguard this important piece of local history. This display features several notable items, including historic photographs of the farm as it appeared when purchased by the Knights of Malta, images from the groundbreaking of the Malta Home, and pictures documenting the laying of the cornerstone. Also included in the display is the door of the original safe that was located in the basement of the Malta Home—carefully saved by members of the Granville Fire Company during demolition. The exhibit is nearly complete. A custom display box is currently being constructed to properly store and showcase the time capsule itself. Once finished, we look forward to hosting an open house in 2026, where members of the community will be invited to visit our firehouse and view these preserved artifacts in person. We are honored to protect and share these 100-year-old historical items, which hold deep significance to the Village of Granville. Our hope is that future generations will be able to learn from and appreciate the rich history of Granville and the Malta Home. The Granville Fire Company would like to express our gratitude to all the donors who made this preservation project possible. |
