| Each year on September 29, Mifflin County celebrates a unique tradition known as Goose Day. This custom traces its roots back to the 1700s, when German settlers brought with them the belief that eating goose on Michaelmas Day would bring prosperity and good fortune in the year ahead. More than 200 years later, Goose Day remains a beloved part of our local culture, drawing neighbors together to honor history while celebrating community.
This Goose Day, the Granville Fire Company is proud to have sponsored “Grant the Granville Goose”, a special addition to the community that celebrates the history and landmarks of our village.
Grant is decorated with snapshots of important places that make Granville unique, including the Granville Firehouse, the Malta Home, the Granville Train Station, and Minehart Dam. Standing proudly at the entrance to the Village of Granville, Grant not only welcomes visitors but also shares the story of our community’s past and present.
Adding to the display, the Granville Train Station sign and the cornerstone from the Malta Home are showcased alongside Grant, creating a meaningful tribute to two of our most historic sites.
The Granville Fire Company is honored to support this tradition and to help highlight the people, places, and history that make our community such a special place to call home.
We invite everyone to stop by, meet Grant, and join us in celebrating Goose Day-a time-honored tradition here in Mifflin County. |
