| Yesterday morning, Deputy Chief Mandel Beers received a phone call from a local resident reporting that her horse was down and unable to get back up. Deputy Chief Beers and Firefighter Shawver responded directly to the scene, while additional members responded to the station to gather extra equipment and supplies in case they were needed. Upon arrival, Deputy Chief Beers and FF Shawver worked alongside the horse’s owner and a family member to safely assist the animal. Thanks to their coordinated efforts, the horse was successfully helped back onto its feet. Situations involving large animals, especially horses that are down and unable to rise on their own, are extremely dangerous for both the animal and those attempting to help, which is why proper assistance and a calm, coordinated response are critical. This incident was especially meaningful, as it was not the first time Granville Fire Company members have assisted this horse. In October of 2020, our members also responded to help the same horse, Rio, after he became stuck in the mud. We are thankful the incident ended safely and commend the teamwork of everyone involved. Below is a photo of Deputy Chief Mandel Beers and FF Shawver with Rio after yesterday morning’s incident and a photo of 2020's incident. |
